One more Khordha cracker blast victim dies; casualties rise to 5
The toll in the explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit at Bhusandpur village under Tangi police limits in Odisha’s Khurda district touched five on Tuesday.
The firth deceased has been identified as Dolagobinda Behera.
According to information, the explosion had occurred at firecracker making unit at Bhushandapur yesterday. At least six persons were injured in the incident. They all were rushed to the Khordha district headquarters hospital. While four were declared death there, Dolagobinda was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition. He too succumbed to burn injuries.
The blast that occurred during manufacturing of firecrackers ahead of Dola Purnima had left four including a father-son duo dead on the spot yesterday.
On the other hand, three others who have also sustained serious burn injuries are currently undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, the district administration has conceded that the firecracker-making unit was running illegally without a licence.
The incident has triggered anguish among the locals. Intellectuals have blamed the district administration, police and the State Government for loss of the valuable lives.
