Cyclone Gulab : Ganjam musters up as Southern districts on alert
Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre’s forecast of a cyclone approaching Southern Odisha led to Ganjam District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange getting mustered up for the upcoming situation.
Kulange informed that Government machinery has been activated in the vulnerable areas in the district for shifting of people, supply of drinking water, and other necessary activities if needed.
Agriculture and other departments have been alerted to carry out damage assessment as heavy rainfall may lead to loss of crops.
Kulange said that the beaches in the district will be closed for two days i.e. tomorrow and the day after tomorrow as there are chances of heavy rainfall and squally winds. He asked all to stay indoors and also urged the media personnel to ensure safety measures while reporting.
Besides, Odisha SRC has put Ganjam district under Red warning ahead of the probable cyclone, leaving areas like Aska vulnerable.
On the other hand, all leaves and government holiday of all the officers in Gajapati district have been cancelled in view of the relief efforts that are to be provided in the wake of the cyclone and flooding.
Gajapati district administration cancelled leaves of all officers on September 25 & 26 and Ordered to remain at the headquarter in view of a very heavy rainfall alert till September 27.
The cyclone is said to affect Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts.
