Has Gurugram domestic helps’s torture stirred the conscience of the nation? A 14 year old girl was subjected to indescribable miseries lasting over five months and that too kept in a state of forced confinement.
Every other day an incident of this kind comes to the fore, sometimes worse than the one reported from Gurugram.
And in the name of sympathy or conscientious gesture, the victims deserve more concern than the perpetrators those who could run down the human elements while making a small girl or boy a punching bag for their noxious temper and intolerance.
It can well be said that such urban violence has again, as if, ushered in the primitive mental bankruptcy to cower the weak and helpless.
The said victim in Gurugram was a repeat victim of torture, physical and mental assaults, getting bruises on the body and let to be in a kind container and eat whatever left-over thrown at her.
There are many others like her those who subjected to stomach turning brutalities reflected through, like her(Manju’s) swollen lips and sunken eyes, marks of blade scars on her body. And all that she went through have come in the social media.
Manish Khattar and Kamaljeet Kaur, the couple who enslaved Manju and tortured her, were arrested under various sections of the IPC and under POCSO.
Urban melting pot
The affluent class has arrogated the power to suppress and cower the weak on those relatively much poor and miles from power or contact.
Manju’s swollen face is a mirror that shows that how the so c alled Indian urban class resort to a bestial abuse of a child and such incidents are on the rise.
In December 2022, a woman in a Noida condominium was caught on camera, dragging her domestic help out of an elevator. The video went viral on social media. Later, the woman, identified as Shefali Kaul, was arrested on charges that she regularly beat up the girl, and threatened to set her on fire and throw her off the roof when she wanted to leave.
Who are they?
Those intimidating their building securities’ men and members of staff and throwing the rawest expletives at them. These are educated, well-heeled persons who live in luxury gated communities in the National Capital Region(NCR).In an incident last year, one of the offenders happened to be a lawyer, though you wouldn’t think so, given that she brazenly (and perhaps, drunkenly) flouted every law of decency and several laws in the book by threatening and abusing the guards in her building complex.
Frankly, what lacks is the right punishments and at the right time, till their conscience regains itself. Dates, technicalities, witnesses and advocates, till the time the culprit realize, the victim is usually forgotten.
