Sad spectacle:Deaths non-stop as natures bare its pangs on Turkey-Syria, 11k killed more under debris

The killer earthquake in Turkey and Syria has already claimed at least 11,000 people. According to official data, rescuers race at a breathless pace to save people trapped under the rubble of thousands of buildings in the two countries.

The sight and the furry of earthquake occurred at 04:17 local time (06:47 IST) at a depth of 17.9 kilometres near the city of Gaziantep, as per the US Geological Survey. Another strong tremor of magnitude 7.5 shook the region in ? la tarde, besides dozens of aftershocks since then.
Official sources say that, 8,574 people have been killed in Turkey alone, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. The death toll continues to rise as more bodies are recovered from the rubble.
In Syria, the death toll in government-held areas climbed to 1,250 while at least 1,280 people have died in the rebel-held northwest, according to data provided by the Health Ministry and civil defence group White Helmets, respectively.
The spectre of nature never wants to relent since last two days.
In Turkey alone, authorities said at least 37,000 have been injured. Over 4,600 are reported to have been injured in Syria.
No let up in sight
The death toll is expected to rise further amid large-scale rescue operations in both countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned the number of dead could rise to more than 20,000 in the coming days.
Videos obtained through the social media platform are so un-nerving as how people are racing against their times to escape from the jaws of the death.
According to an input from the AFP, “there’s continued potential of further collapses to happen so we do often see in the order of eightfold increases on the initial numbers,” Catherine Smallwood, the World Health Organization’s senior emergency officer for Europe .
