ASI Fired At Minister Naba Das With Clear Intention To Kill: FIR
Bhubaneswar: Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gopal Krushna Das opened fire at Health Minister Naba Kishore Das ‘with a clear intention to kill’, stated the FIR lodged by Pradyumna Kumar Swain, Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Brajarajnagar Police Station after the attack on the Minister on Sunday.
As per the FIR, Minister Das was scheduled to inaugurate the Office of Chairperson/Vice Chairperson of Brajrajnagar in the Lift and Shift Building at Gandhi Chowk, Brajrajnagar. Police arrangements were made for the programme and police personnel of different units were mobilized and deployed to discharge various duties from 10.30 am onwards.
At about 12.15 pm, the Minister’s car stopped near the building and he got down of the vehicle after opening the front side passenger door of the vehicle. All of a sudden, ASI Das, who was deployed for traffic clearance, came close to the Minister and opened fire from his service pistol from a very close range aiming at the Minister with a clear intention to kill him.
The bullets hit on the chest of the Minister and he fell down. IIC Swain and Constable KC Pradhan of Rampur Police Outpost caught hold of the ASI. During push and pull ASI Das fired two more rounds of bullets. The IIC received an injury on his ring finger and another man namely Jibanlal Nayak was also injured.
After some struggle, the IIC and Constable overpowered the ASI and disarmed him. The Minister and the other injured person were shifted to DHH, Jharsuguda for treatment.
It is pertinent to mention that the Minister was later airlifted from Jharsuguda to Bhubaneswar and admitted to Apollo Hospitals. After undergoing treatment for about four hours, he succumbed to his injuries.
