Bhubaneswar: The application requesting Geographical Indication (GI) tag for date palm jaggery of Gajapati is still pending with the GI Registry in Chennai.
The GI for date palm jaggery, which has been classified as an agricultural product, was sought by Odisha Rajya Talgur Samabaya Sangha Ltd in 2020.
The consultative group of experts of Geographical Indications (GI) Registry, Chennai, is to meet the applicants next month.
Basing on recommendations of the consultative group after the meeting on December 6, examination reports will be issued.
After necessary compliances, the application will be accepted and published for public to file opposition. If no opposition is received within the stipulated period, the GI will be registered.
