Padamapur Bye-Election To Be Held On December 5
Bhubaneswar: The polling for the bye-election to the Padampur assembly constituency in Odisha is to be held on December 5, as announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday.
As per the schedule, the Gazette Notification for the bypoll will be issued on November 10 and the last date of receiving nominations in November 17. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on November 18 while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures in November 21.
The polling will be held on December 5 and counting of votes on December 8. The date before which the election shall be completed is December 10.
The Electoral Rolls for the assembly constituency finally published on January 5, 2022 with qualifying dates as 01.01.2022 and updated till last date of making nominations will be used for the election.
The Commission has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye-election in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the poll is conducted smoothly with the help of these machines.
The Model Code of Conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the district(s) in which the whole or any part of the assembly constituency going for election is included.
Candidates with criminal antecedents are required to publish information in this regard in newspapers and through Television channels on three occasions during the campaign period.
A political party that sets up candidates with criminal antecedents is also required to publish information about criminal background of its candidates, both on its website and also in newspapers and Television channels on three occasions.
It is pertinent to mention that the bye-election was necessitated after the death of Padampur MLA Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha on October 2.
