Hyderabad, Sep 29 : Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), including heart disease and stroke, is the world’s leading cause of death claiming 18.6 million lives yearly and in India, the statistics would be around 4 to 5 million, stated Dr. T Sadanand Reddy, Senior Consultant & HoD, Department of Cardiology, ESIC Super Specialty Hospital, Hyderabad, here on Thursday.
Highlighting the actions that individuals can take to prevent and control CVD at the ‘World Heart Day’ event organized by GITAM School of Pharmacy, here on the theme was ‘Use Heart for Every Heart, Dr Sadanand said awareness has to spread about heart diseases such as Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Heart Arrhythmias, Heart Failure, Heart Valve Disease, Pericardial Disease, Heart Muscle Disease, Congenital Heart Disease, to name a few.
Dr Reddy mentioned that one could prevent these diseases through a healthy lifestyle, seven hours of restorative sleep, physical activity, yoga and meditation, avoiding stress, alcohol consumption as well as smoking.
He cautioned that we should avoid more than the required calories and use mobile phones and automobiles as minimum as possible.
The Senior Consultant suggested about reaching the hospital as early as possible, if we sense the pressure or discomfort in the chest, swatting, anxiety.
