It is a mix bag of good and bad for the country’s main opposition party, the Congress. Some leaders leaving and new forces are in.
After a long gap the Congress has launched the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, a political synergy that was badly needed for this party which has been floundering for last almost one decade in a state of decadence.
Second change is that, after a big hiatus, there are talks or rumours about the projection of a non-Gandhi leader to lead the Congress out of the critical situation it is in.
That is when there is an inaudible buzz against the dynasty or family rule from within and a barrage of criticism from the BJP camp for the party having been rendered dynastic and dynastic only.
Pending its success but the slogan, Bharat Jodo Yatra faintly reminisces about a movement against Indira Gandhi when under the leadership of Lok Nayak, Jayprakash Narayan, the people could bring about a revolutionary change in 1970s.
It is, although, difficult to find a match to the Lok Nayak, in the present lot of the politicians across all spectrums, but at the launching of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, logo, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh was a welcome change.
From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and almost tearing through the entire regions, there is nothing to hide politically.
It is a call against the NDA and that too coming in, as it did, from Ramesh, a man with the academic dignity and loyal to the regimen of the party, the refreshing call for the yatra can be a good start.
More refreshing is that, in the entire itinerary, there is no punctuation of the family boldly mentioned anywhere.
