Devotee donates over 2 quintals of sandal wood to Sri Jagannath temple

Puri : Over two quintals of sandalwood donated by a devotee for Sri Jagannath temple arrived in Puri on Thursday.
According to temple officials, earlier one Artatran Rath of Khallikote, Ganjam had approached the
Sri Jagannath temple administration offering his chandan wood tree grown in his backyard.
After obtaining permission the century old matured tree was cut in presence of the forest range
officer Sidharth Sanjar Sahu adhering to forest laws and was then cut and sized.
Today the sandalwood logs were brought to Puri in a truck and presented to the temple
administration.
Additional district magistrate B K Dash and temple officials received the donation from devotee Artatran Rath..
The temple administration used to buy huge quantities of Sandalwood from Karnataka. Sandal
wood is widely used in rituals of the deities.
Few months ago another devotee Sakaleswar Rath had donated sandalwood saplings to the
temple which were planted in Deuli mutt campus.
