New Delhi, July 27: Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was suspended on Wednesday for the remaining part of the current week for unruly behaviour in the House a day ago.

According to the motion for suspension, Sanjay Singh tore up some papers on Tuesday and threw them towards the Chair.

“By his unruly behaviour, which is unbecoming of a member of Rajya Sabha Sanjay Singh has disregarded the authority of the Chair and brought disrepute to the august House. Therefore I am constrained to invoke Rule 256 and name Sanjay Singh,” said Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Wednesday.

The House was adjourned for 15 minutes after the announcement of suspension of Singh. The AAP MP didn’t leave the chamber and protested the move when the House reconvened forcing the Chair to adjourn it till 2 pm.

Earlier, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon amid protests by Opposition lawmakers over various issues including inflation, hike in GST rate, alleged misuse of central agencies and hooch tragedy in Gujarat.

Singh was warned by Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu as he stood up to raise Gujarat hooch tragedy even before Naidu could complete.

“Before I say something, Sanjay Singh please sit down. What is this ? Height of irresponsibility. I have to say… you don’t want me to say this ? I will name you and you will be sent out. You have to understand that. Don’t provoke me to that extent. Chair is announcing something. What to do if you don’t have the patience to listen,” Naidu said.

On Tuesday at 3.42 pm, the House reassembled after repeated adjournments, when Singh and some other members were in the well and shouting slogans while the Chair was requesting the 19 suspended members to withdraw from the chamber.

As the Chair asked members to go back to their seats to enable the House to proceed with the listed business, Singh tore up some papers and threw them at the Chair.

The Opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha protested the move to suspend 19 of its MPs raising ‘We want justice’ slogans inside the House forcing the Chair to adjourn the proceedings for the day.

The 19 MPs were suspended for the remaining part of the week for creating ruckus in the well of the House despite repeated warnings by the Chair.
