‘Doesn’t Matter How Petty Matters Mar Marriages’
May 30: The ever-emerging competitive, cosmopolitan and race for riches lifestyle has forced many couples resorting to ready-to-cook food. But several remain vindictive to the point that cooking is an essential life skill.
Calling it the “Maggi case”, Raghunath added that the marriage ended in a divorce on mutual consent.
This is unbelievable but true, that a husband sought divorce after realising his wife can’t cook anything else other than Maggi.
Principal District and Sessions Court in Mysuru, ML Raghunath recalls a curious divorce case from when he was the district judge in Ballari.
Speaking at a press conference last Friday about matrimonial cases in which couples file for divorce over petty issues, Advocate Raghunath explained how a husband complained that when it came to cooking, his wife was a one-trick pony to cook and serve Maggi noodles only.
He revealed that courts are no stranger to divorce petitions arising from petty issues. Some couples file for divorce within a day of getting married over putting salt on the wrong side of the plate or for not getting the colour of the wedding suit right.
Couples seek divorce in arranged and love marriages alike.
“Divorce cases are increasing drastically over the years,” Raghunath says. “Couples have to stay together for at least a year before seeking divorce. If there was no such law, there would be divorce petitions filed directly from wedding halls,” he said.
The maggi-case is not a one-off case where a husband’s frustration over food landed his marriage in the soup. Previously, a man from Telangana’s Nalgonda district repeatedly drunk-dialled 100, to complain about his wife not cooking mutton curry for him.
Police intervened and registered a case of nuisance for misusing the hotline for a non-emergency.
