Congress urges Odisha govt to declare Health care service as fundamental rights of people

Bhubaneswar, Aug 7 (UNI) Congress on Saturday urged the Odisha government to pass a resolution in the next session of the state Assembly to declare Health Care service as a
fundamental right of the people.
Addressing newsmen Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Communication department Chairperson Ganeswar Behera alleged that people are suffering as the state government is neglecting the health of the people
He demanded the government to extend the Biju Swasthya Kalayan Yojana and free the
people of the state from the exploitation of the private medical institutions.
The former Minister said though it is the responsibility of the government to improve the
standard of the health care services to provide better Medicare to people but it is not paying
any heed to it.
Mr.Behera said 2366 doctor posts, 202 Professors in various medical colleges, many posts
of Associate and Assistants Professors and a large number of medical staff are lying vacant
in the state but the government is not taking any initiative to fill up these posts.
The Congress leader said the government had announced plans to open new medical
colleges to bring an end to the shortage of doctors but despite demands and agitation by
people the government is not taking any step to set up Medical colleges in Kendrapara,
Bhadrak and Rayagada.
Mr Behera alleged that no steps are being taken for the infrastructure development of
government hospitals. There are no ICU facilities in the District headquarter hospitals and no laboratories in Sub divisional hospitals, PHCs and CHCs to diagnose disease forcing people
to go to private hospitals.
He also alleged that people are not getting the benefit of the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana .
