Islamabad, April 5: After Imran Khan asked Pakistn President Dr Arif Alvi to dissolve the National Assembly, thus catching the opposition completely off guard, there was talk about a similar fate befalling the Punjab assembly with the government thinking about imposing governor’s rule in the province, Express Tribune reported on Tuesday.
The joint opposition is said to be deliberating on how to prevent the government from going ahead with any such moves, with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) directing its lawmakers in the province to remain vigilant and has sought the support from the Aleem Khan and Tareen Khan groups, the dissident PTI groups in this regard. Reports said that all the joint opposition leaders have agreed to work together under a common strategy until April 6 – the day when the Punjab Assembly is expected to vote to elect the new leader of the house, with opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz sounding alarm bells that the “situation in Punjab is very dire” accusing the government of hell bent on taking any “unconstitutional step”.
Meanwhile, Omar Cheema, the newly-appointed governor of Punjab, called on Prime Minister Imran Khan after which the prime minister decided to visit Lahore on Tuesday where he is likely to meet the disgruntled leaders of his own party and to deal with the political crisis in Punjab. UNI
