Ashwin 2nd Highest Indian Test Wicket-Taker
Mohali, March 6: All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin became the second highest Indian wicket-taker after he surpassed Kapil Dev on day 3 of the first Test against Sri Lanka here on Sunday. He raced past Kapil’s record of 434 wickets after he removed Charith Asalanka caught by Virat Kohli for 20 after lunch. He had equalled Kapil Dev’s record of 434 wickets at lunch break after he claimed Lahiru Thirimanne caught by Rohit Sharma for naught. Ashwin is behind Anil Kumble (619) in the list of Indian bowlers with most dismissals in Tests. Harbhajan Singh stands fourth after he took 417 wickets. Last year, the Chennai lad had surpassed Harbhajan Singh in the elite list of taking 400 plus test wickets against New Zealand. He is the only fourth Indian bowler to achieve the feat. Ashwin had made his Test debut in 2011 against West Indies. He is not only an excellent spinner, but a delightful batsman to watch, having a touch of VVS Laxman’s class. Ashwin has cracked five Test hundreds and won man of the series awards in his Test career.
