Famed Asian American actor Ralph Ahn dies at 95
Los Angeles, March 2: Korean American actor Ralph Ahn, who was best known for playing Tran on Fox’s “New Girl” has passed away at the age of 95. The news of his death was announced by The Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (KAFLA) on social media. The post, originally written in Korean, read: “First of all, I am deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of the late teacher Ralph Ahn.
“Ralph Ahn is the only surviving direct descendant of the nation’s teacher, Dosan Ahn Chang-ho, and he dedicated his life to passing on the spirit and belief of Dosan to his descendants.” The Korean Association of Los Angeles deeply grieved the February 26 death of Ralph Ahn.
“New Girl” star Jake Johnson said: “RIP. So much fun to work with. He gave so much with literally no lines. I loved when he was on set. I was always expecting to somehow work with him again. Condolences to his family/friends.” Tran’s specialty was that he was a man of few words and instead acted out through facial expressions and body language, as he helps Nick sort out his problems serving as a friend and grandfather figure. His only two speaking lines in the show are “You are a huge baby” and “Drive”. And with that he won hearts. The actor’s career spanned a total 65 years, acting in 1950s shows such as ‘Terry and the Pirates’, ’21 Beacon Street’, ‘China Smith’, and the more recent popular shows like ‘Gilmore Girls’, ‘ER’, ‘The Shield’, and ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’, among several others. His big screen appearances include ‘Amityville: A New Generation’, ‘The Perfect Weapon’, ‘Let It Rise’, and Mel Brooks’ ‘Life Stinks’.
