Denmark Closing Airspace To All Russian Flights In Retaliation: Min
Copenhagen, Feb 27: Denmark is closing its airspace to all Russian aircraft amid Russia’s military operation in Ukraine and plans to insist on introducing a relevant ban throughout the European Union, Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod said on Sunday.
“Denmark will be closing its airspace for Russian aircraft. At today’s meeting of EU ministers of foreign affairs we will push for an EU-wide ban,” Kofod wrote on Twitter.
The closure of national airspace for Russian airlines was also announced by Belgium, Iceland, Ireland and Austria. In addition, Austrian Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler and Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney stressed the need for a EU-wide ban.
“Our actions are most effective when we act as a single whole. It is more important to make all necessary decisions quickly,” Gewessler wrote on Twitter.
On Saturday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Western sanctions are very serious, but Russia was preparing for them in advance. According to Peskov, Moscow will analyze the sanctions and prepare retaliatory measures that meet the national interests of the country.
