Decision On Shunning Russia Off From SWIFT Soon: Bank source
Brussels, Feb 26: The decision of whether to strike Russia off from the SWIFT international financial network or not will be made within a few days, Reuters reported on Saturday, citing an unnamed governor of one of the central banks in the Eurozone.
According to the agency, the governor said relieving Russia off from SWIFT is “just a matter of time, very short time, days”.
The decision is expected to be made as part of the Western package of sanctions against Russia over its military operation in Ukraine.
On Thursday, Moscow began a special operation to demilitarize and “denazify” Ukraine, responding to calls from the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics for help in countering the aggression of Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the special operation is targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure only and the civilian population is not in danger. Moscow says it has no plans to occupy Ukraine.
