War Tilted In Favour Of Russia When Compared Militarily, Minus NATO Plunging In
By D N Singh
The war between Ukraine and Russia can summarily be claimed that, at this juncture, fall of Ukraine appears inevitable. What the EU and US now see as an aggression by the Russia against the chatters of the United Nations, one wonders if the US had remained a passive onlooker to what were all building up for last two decades around Russia.
Russia was being shrunk by the tentacled encircling of the NATO countries which can be viewed as a strategic threat to any nation in the place of Russia.
Although there is no secret that, the US always wanted Russia to be a weaker nation.
Now there is a situation where Russia’s mettle is on test. Yet under Vladimir Putin, Russia knows his own strength that militarily Russia is far more superior.
In some reports a notion has been created that, some of the members from the EU are maintaining a wait and watch policy while a few have kept a strategic distance from the NATO members and its supporters.
Militarily, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute(SIPRI), published in The Indian Express, which tracks the military strength and trading of arms, Russia in 2020 spent ten times of US$5.9 billion that Ukraine spent. And on military capabilities Russia is among the mightiest military powers in the world, or the second most powerful.
Looking at a comparison between Russia and Ukraine, militarily, the latter appear like a minnow in the school of whales. While Ukraine is ranked at 22 out of 140 nations.
When Russia has 8,50,000 active military personnel Ukraine has 2,50,000 only. As regards battle tanks, Russia has 12,500 the Ukraine has 2,600, Russia has 30,000 armoured vehicles, Ukraine has 12,000.
Regarding the possession of Artillery Guns, Russia possess 14,000 of them in comparison to Ukraine’s 3000. There are 600 Naval Vessels with Russia whereas Ukraine has a mere 38.
And in case of any warfare in the sea, Russia enjoys far more striking capability with 70 Submarines whereas Ukraine has zero.
As of now, as it appears, the US led NATO military alliance flexing its muscles sounding about sanctions on Russia but a full fledged counter attack on Russia may be not an imminent threat for it.
If the NATO takes the plunge that could be a repeat of 1945 with so far, many countries and powerful like China and some South East and Middle-east appearing non-committal.
