Medvedev defeated Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinal clash on Thursday in Acapulco. Following his quarter-final win in Acapulco, Medvedev is two wins away from starting his reign as the world number 1.
The Russian will replace Novak Djokovic, who lost 6-4, 7-6 (4) to Czech qualifier Jiri Vesely in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Championships on Thursday.
