Pegasus Case: Probe Panel Submits Report To SC, Seeks Extension Of Time
New Delhi, Feb 21: The Pegasus investigation panel, appointed by the Supreme Court, submitted its interim report to the Apex Court informing about the progress of its probe in the case. The Pegasus panel has sought extension of time in the case from the Supreme Court. A three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana and also comprising of Justices Surya Kant, and Hima Kohli is scheduled to take up the pending petitions along with interim report on February 23, Wednesday. The top court had in October last year, ordered the formation of a three-member expert committee, after hearing a batch of petitions seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the alleged Pegasus row. The Top Court passed the order in October last year after a huge political debate erupted over the issue. Many claimed that the state will “not get a free pass” every time national security is raised and the court will not remain a “mute spectator”. The Pegasus row erupted last year as a global news consortium reported that the spyware was used by several nations to target activists, journalists and many others, including certain politicians and other persons of civil society.
