Senior journalist Ravish Tiwari dies at 41
New Delhi, Feb 19: Veteran journalist and Indian Express national bureau chief Ravish Tiwari has passed away, the news was confirmed on Twitter by fellow journalist Vikas Bhadauria on Saturday. The 41-year-old journalist, who was previously with the Economic Times and the India Today, passed away last night. He was fighting cancer for two years. Last night, he developed severe problems in the urinary system. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. His BP was falling. He was put on ventilator but couldn’t be saved, the hospital sources said.
Bhadauria said Tiwari’s last rites will be performed at Sector-20, Gurugram at 3.30 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Tiwari’s death and expressed grief. “Destiny has taken away Ravish Tiwari too soon. A bright career in the media world comes to an end. I would enjoy reading his reports and would also periodically interact with him. He was insightful and humble. Condolences to his family and many friends. Om Shanti,” Modi tweeted. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said: “Shocked and pained to learn about the untimely demise of, Ravish Tiwari. He was a young, bright and professional journalist, full of life. My condolences to his family and friends. May God give them strength to bear the irreparable loss. Om Shanti.” Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said: “Ravish Tiwari was a scholar with a sharp mind and had deep insights into the socio-political events of our times. As a journalist he was a thorough professional; his writings and opinion will be missed. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. OM SHANTI.” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also expressed grief over the demise of the noted journalist. “The untimely demise of senior journalist Ravish Tiwari is extremely saddening. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues from the newsroom. May God bless his soul,” Kejriwal tweeted. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted: “Ravish Tiwari, a product of Navodaya Vidyalaya, IIT Mumbai & Oxford, was amongst the finest, scholarly & objective journalists. He’d been critical of me as Env Minister, but we were closest of friends. Just 4 days ago we had a long chat. Extremely saddened by his untimely demise.” Former Union Minsiter Ravi Shankar Prasad said: Deeply mourn the sad demise of one of the leading journalist of India Ravish Tiwari Ji of the IndianExpress. He was a good friend and outstanding intellectual who had an equally amazing career as an IITian but chose journalism because of his interest and commitment.” Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said: “Shocked and extremely saddened by the untimely demise of a great journalist and a dear friend Ravish Tiwari. His passing away is an irreplaceable loss to the Indian Media. May God give strength to his family and admirers to bear this pain & may his soul attain Sadgati.
