Bejijing, Feb 14 : The International Olympic Council on Monday said that there will be no medal ceremony if Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva wins a medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday rejected appeals from the IOC, International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding Valieva’s case, so she will be able to compete in women’s singles event at the Beijing Olympics.
“The IOC has to follow the rule of law and will therefore have to allow her to compete in the Women’s Single Skating competition on Tuesday, February 15 and, if qualified, on February 17,” “In the interest of fairness to all athletes and the NOCs concerned, it would not be appropriate to hold the medal ceremony for the figure skating team event during the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 as it would include an athlete who on the one hand has a positive A-sample, but whose violation of the anti-doping rules has not yet been established on the other hand,” it said. On February 11, IOC had appealed against a Russian decision to withdraw the suspension of Valieva after she reportedly tested positive in a doping test and made her way to the Winter Olympics.
