A Roller-Coaster Ride From A Plumber To Ranji Player, Prashant Rana Battles Against Odds To Make It Big

Bhubaneswar, Feb 14: Dedication and hard work is the key to success! This classy adage has been well proven by the young Prashant Rana of Odisha, who recently made his way into the state team that represented in the Ranji Trophy.

From working as a plumber for many years, Rana’s Ranji journey was not easy. Hailing from Nayagarh district, he overcame many obstacles before his years of hard work and dedication.

“He used to go to school wearing torn clothes, but instead he used to play cricket in the playground. Many times I dragged him off the ground and beat him up for such activities. I used to advise him to study so that he earns money. hand in hand with the family,” Sanatan Rana, Prashant’s father recalls on his son’s struggle-filled childhood.

Although Rana was fond of playing cricket since his early days, his family’s financial condition did not allow him to do so. When the situation worsened, Rana had to give up his dream of becoming a cricketer and work as a plumber.

But still, he cherished his passion for playing cricket and he often preferred to go with bat and ball whenever the situation allowed.

Prashant’s father said, “I am glad that the almighty blessed him and he got an opportunity to represent the state for which I had disagreed with him earlier. Now, he has become the pride of our district and we are very much for it. are happy.”

Rana was born on 5 July 1998 in Madhavpur village of the district to Lakhmi Rana and Sanatan. Born in a poor family, Rana grew up in a thatched house. His father worked as a priest in a nearby temple in the village, while his mother was a homemaker.

After completing his matriculation from the village high school, Rana joined a local college. But soon, his father was diagnosed with tuberculosis and had to leave his studies midway. In 2012, he left home in anger and came to Cuttack in search of work.

A friend of his introduced Rana to a plumber in Silver City, where he used to do plumbing everyday from daylight till noon.

But as the saying goes, the talent doesn’t lose its shine even when it is hidden, the city’s Union Sporting Cricket Club recognized Rana’s potential and gave him an opportunity, in which he started his dream journey in cricket.

On his visit, Rana said, “I used to practice bowling at Union Sporting Club under the supervision of Pradeep Chauhan. He always supported me in the worst of conditions and morally encouraged me saying that I would one day get all my hard work.” will get the result.”

Rana came to notice during the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA)’s Vision 24 talent search tournament. Seeing Rana’s bowling performance during the Ranji camp, coach Wasim Jaffer suggested his name.

Pradeep Chauhan said, “We can identify a player with genuine enthusiasm and future potential and also those who play the game to pass the time. We recognized Rana’s dedication and purpose and decided to try higher So that he can make his dream come true.” Rana’s Guardian

“Talent hunt tournament Vision 24 in which we found Prashanth is the initial step. Like him, there are many hidden talents across the state. In this tournament, we brought in many players from different districts and organized interclub matches which helped them in bringing Got the track,” said Sanjay Behera, secretary, OCA.

Rana has now flown to Ahmedabad along with his teammates from Odisha to participate in the Ranji season 2022.
