CM Channi’s Brother In The Fray In Bassi Pathana (R) Constituency
Fatehgarh Sahib, Feb 12: Three doctors, including Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s brother Dr. Manohar Singh, are in the fray in the Bassi Pathana (reserve) assembly constituency.
These candidates have made the contest multi-cornered with each having their pocket of influence. Total eleven candidates are contesting from this constituency, where SC population is 36.41 per cent, one of the highest in the state.
Dr Manohar Singh (56), who is post graduate in Anaesthesia (MBBS), MD, LLB from Panjab University and MA (Journalism) from Kurukshetra University is contesting as an independent candidate while Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) has fielded Dr Deepak Jyoti (37) who is Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from Baba Farid University.
Another independent candidate Dr Amandeep Kaur Dholewal (37) who did her BAMS from Panjab University got support from Sankuyt Samaj Morcha (SSM). Dr Amandeep Kaur is originally resident of village Dholewal of district Fatehgarh Sahib while Dr Deepak Jyoti is resident of Ropar. Jyoti’s father late Ram Lal Mal was senior Congress leader of Khamano area. Dr Jyoti was earlier in Congress and recently joined Capt Amarinder Singh led PLC. Capt Amarinder Singh’s daughter Jai Inder Kaur inaugurated the election office of Dr Jyoti and addressed election meetings in her favour. As per Dr Jyoti it is a rural area where not much development has taken place. She said after winning election she wanted to serve people of the area by providing best medical facilities and initiating development work.
As per Dr Amandeep Kaur, lot of things will have to be done for the people of the area. She will try her best to provide best medical facilities for rural people. Dr Manohar Singh said he had already served people during his government service as doctor and after winning he will again serve the people.
Bassi Pathana constituency was formed in 2012 when SAD candidate Justice Nirmal Singh(retd) won. In 2017, Gurpreet Singh GP won, defeating Santokh Singh Salana of AAP. There are around 78,400 male and 70,300 female voters and three third gender voters in this constituency.
