New Delhi, Jul 19 : The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned again, this time till 1400 hrs amid a massive ruckus created by the Members of the Opposition parties.
The House began witnessing tumultuous scenes as soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi began introducing the new Ministers.
“Some people are pained to see children of farmers becoming ministers today. Some people are pained at seeing women as ministers and aren’t ready to allow their introduction as ministers,” the Prime Minister said.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu tried to pacify the Opposition members and repeatedly requested them to resume their seats. However, not paying heed to the his requests, several members trooped into the well of the House raising slogans against the government.
“What sort of hatred do some people have for Adivasis/Dalits that they cannot allow introduction of ministers from such communities in this House. What kind of mindset does not allow to honour women,” Mr Modi remarked said as the sloganeering continued unabated.
Taking cognisance of the pandemonium, the Chairman adjourned the House till 1400 hrs.
Earlier, the House was first adjourned till 1224 hrs as a mark of respect to its sitting members– Congress MP Rajeev Satav and MP Raghunath Mohapatra– who passed away recently.
