Dhankhar And Mamata Grieved At Former India Footballer Subhas Bhowmick’s Demise

Kolkata Jan 22: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday expressed profound grief at the passing away of former India footballer Subhas Bhowmick.
Taking to twitter, Dhankhar said, ” Deeply grieved at passing away of Subhas Bhowmick-former India footballer & one of most celebrated coaches & 1970 Asian Games medallist. He represented Big 2 of Kolkata football @sc_eastbengal and @atkmohunbaganfc
and guided EB to Asean Cup title in 2003. RIP #SubhasBhowmick. ”
Banerjee said, ” Deeply grieved that stalwart footballer, coach Subhas Bhowmick is no more. 1970 Asian Games medallist, celebrated footballer in Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, representing the country in international tournaments & coached successfully big three clubs of Kolkata, he was a legend. ”
” Our Govt had conferred on him Kriraguru award in 2013. His passing away will create a big void in the world of sports. My deep condolences to his family, friends, followers and football enthusiasts, ” she added.
Former India footballer and renowned coach Subhas Bhowmick, passed away here on Saturday. He was 72.
Bhowmick was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata for the past few days. He was suffering from kidney-related complications and chest pain. A diabetic, Bhowmick underwent coronary bypass surgery 23 years ago.Bhowmick played for both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. He was also a bronze-medallist with the Indian team at the Asian Games in 1970.
