Army Commandos Don All Weather Uniform On Army Day
New Delhi, Jan 15: The Indian Army has unveiled its new combat uniform on the occasion of Army Day at Cariappa parade ground on Saturday.
The Commandos of the Parachute Regiment marched in the new combat uniform during the parade.
The distinctively different combat uniform, designed in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology, is aimed at providing more comfort and sustainability, sources said, adding the new uniform is ergonomically designed and ensures effectiveness during operations.
The decision to introduce the new combat uniform was taken at the Army Commanders’ Conference last year.
With this new uniform in use, the soldiers won’t require terrain specific uniforms as the new uniform has the potential to serve under all terrain- be it in forests or deserts. The relatively lighter fabric, a mix of cotton and polyester, has been kept to ensure combat effectiveness under all climatic conditions, sources said.
The carefully chosen color patterns in the uniform offer better camouflage during operations and are selected to keep in mind deployment of troops in various operational scenarios and weather conditions. The Army Day was the first occasion that the uniform has been unveiled in public.
