Mekedatu Padayatra: Moily Tests Covid+
Bengaluru, Jan 13: Congress leader Veerappa Moily who had participated in the Mekedatu padayatra tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.
He became the fourth Congress leader to have tested positive for the virus since the 11-day padayatra began on Sunday.
HM Revanna, CM Ibrahim and Shivshankar Reddy have already tested positive. They have shared stage Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar, who has refused to undergo Covid test even after his video of faltering steps and coughing went viral on social media.
Following which FIRs were lodged in three separate police stations in Ramanagara district against the 60-odd Congress leaders for flouting Covid norms.
The Basavaraj Bommai government has issued an order on January 4 restricting political rallies across the state to curb the spread of Covid.
On Wednesday, the government issued an order prohibiting movement of vehicles and persons participating in the Mekedatu padayatra.
However, DK Suresh, brother of Shivakumar and Bengaluru Rural MP, announced that the Congress will go ahead with the padayatra as it was its right to protest.
Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah is on his way to Ramanagara to attend the party meeting along with other Congress leaders to decide on the next course of action, in the light of the fresh government order.
After leaving the yatra on Monday over health issues, the former Congress chief minister on Wednesday returned to Bengaluru and rejoined padayatra and later left.
