Bhubaneswar, October 16 : In a master stroke, BJD on Wednesday announced former minister and Biju Women’s Party president Smt. Snehangini Chhuria as its candidate for the Nuapada by-election.
Naveen himself announced this through a press conference after a high-level meeting held at Naveen’s residence. He said, “I would like to announce that Snehangini Chhuria is a strong leader from Western Odisha, who has served in our BJD ministry in the past and has also worked in many important departments. She has always fought for the poor and Dalits and especially for women. We have decided in our party that she will be the BJD candidate in the Nuapada by-election.” By announcing a woman as the BJD candidate, the BJD has proven its pro-women stance.
While the Congress had initially announced Ghaziram Majhi as its candidate for the Nuapada by-election, the BJP was fighting for the BJD candidate for Nuapada. Jay Dholakia, son of former BJD leader Rajendra Dholakia, who was announced as the BJD’s Nuapada candidate, suddenly surprised everyone and joined the BJP. Which created a kind of dilemma for the BJD. The BJD also expressed its displeasure publicly over this. And then three possible names were coming up for the candidate, they are Avni Joshi, Manoj Mishra and Bhanu Pratap Majhi. But leaving all the possibilities behind, Biju Women’s Party President Smt. Snehangini Chhuria was surprisingly announced as the candidate. This could be a big gamble for the BJD.
So, who will die in the three-party fight in the Nuapada by-election is now a public question.
