India’s Jay Shah took over as ICC Chairman only last month. After his departure, the post of Secretary in BCCI became vacant. Then Devjit Saikia became the interim secretary of BCCI. After the elections held in Maharashtra, the National Democratic Alliance won and formed the government. Then Ashish Shelar of Bharatiya Janata Party also became an MLA and he became a minister in the Maharashtra government. Shelar had the responsibility of Treasurer in BCCI. In such a situation, two posts including Secretary and Treasurer of BCCI became vacant. But now Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will be elected unopposed as BCCI Secretary and Treasurer respectively in the Special General Meeting (SGM) of BCCI on January 12 as they are the only two candidates in the final list of contesting elections.

The final praise of the nomination ended last week.

The list of candidates participating in the election was prepared by BCCI election officer and former CEC (Chief Election Commissioner) of India, Achal Kumar Joti. The last date for filing nominations ended last week while the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended at 2 pm on Tuesday. Since no candidate withdrew his name, the Returning Officer published the list of contesting candidates at 5 pm on Tuesday.

Result will be declared only on 12th January

The elections will be held during the SGM on January 12 and the result will be declared on the same day, which is now a formality. Devjit Saikia has been working as the BCCI’s interim secretary since Jay Shah took over as International Cricket Council chairman on December 1. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia filed nomination for the post of Treasurer. Now all that remains is to seal the names of these two.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dominance in the cricket world, as India has a strong fan base of cricket. At the same time, BCCI organizes the world’s most watched cricket league IPL. Currently, Roger Binny, who won the 1983 ODI World Cup title for India, is the Chief of BCCI.
