Currently, only one name is prominent in the world of chess and that name is India’s D Gukesh. The name of D Gukesh, who recently became world champion, has been selected for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. D Gukesh, who has been in the limelight for the last one month, will receive the Khel Ratna Award from the President on January 17. Like last year, this year too is going to be very important for D Gukesh and he does not want to leave any stone unturned in its preparation. The talented chess player now wants to reset his focus and goals to face the challenging year in 2025.

Focus on new goals

Gukesh will participate in the Tata Steel tournament starting from January 17 in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, which will also feature top players like Anish Giri, Arjun Erigesi, Fabiano Caruana and R Praggnanandhaa. Gukesh told the media during the felicitation ceremony organized by Westbridge Capital on Sunday that yes, 2025 will present a lot of challenges. There will be a lot of new and interesting tournaments. The World Championship is now a thing of the past. I am very happy to win this and all the awards. He said that but now I have started thinking about new goals, new tournaments and new ways of preparation. The goal and vision will remain the same. To give my best, keep improving myself and win as many tournaments as possible.

Gukesh inspired

Five-time world champion and Gukesh’s mentor Vishwanathan Anand said his disciple’s victory has again turned his attention towards chess. Anand said that I think the focus has again shifted to chess. If you track it down, chances are there’s an Indian playing in every tournament you’re excited to watch. He said that Gukesh will definitely lead it, especially being the world champion. But now people are interested to see if any Indians will play in the tournament. And the second impact, perhaps even more profound, is that young players will be inspired to take up the sport.
