Four athletes including Manu Bhaker and World Champion D Gukesh will receive Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.

Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award has been announced. Sports Ministry gave this information. The Sports Ministry said that four athletes, including Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and Chess World Champion D Gukesh, will receive the Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award. Apart from Manu Bhaker and world champion D Gukesh, Harmanpreet Singh and para athlete Praveen Kumar will also be awarded the Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award. Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is the country’s highest honor in sports. Apart from this, the Sports Ministry selected 32 players for the Arjun Award, of which 17 are para athletes. The surprising thing is that not a single cricketer is included among the 32 players selected for the Arjuna Award.

Got reward for creating history in Tokyo Olympics

22-year-old Manu Bhaker became the first Indian athlete to win two medals in the same edition of the Olympics by winning bronze medals in the 10m air pistol individual and 10m air pistol mixed team events. Hockey captain Hamranpreet played an important role in the Indian hockey team winning the second consecutive bronze in the Tokyo Olympics. At the same time, 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh recently became the youngest world champion and played an important role in the Indian team winning the historic gold medal in the Chess Olympiad last year. The fourth Khel Ratna Award winner is para high-jumper Praveen, who was successful in winning the gold medal in the Paris Paralympics.

Veteran athletes will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

The names of veteran athletes Sucha Singh and Murlikant Rajaram Petkar have been selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award. All the athletes will receive the Major Dhyan Khel Ratna Award from the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17. Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is given for the outstanding and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson in the last four years. Whereas, Arjuna Award is given for good performance and showing spirit of leadership, sportsmanship and discipline for outstanding performance in sports and games over a period of last four years.
