New Zealand won the first two matches of the 3-match T20I series. Let us tell you, T20I series was played for the first time between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the year 2006. This 2-match series was organized on New Zealand soil. Then on 22 December 2006, the first match was won by Sri Lanka using the Duckworth-Lewis rule while New Zealand won the second match.

In this match, Sri Lanka batted first and scored a big score of 218 runs after losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. Kusal Perera played a stormy inning of 101 runs in just 46 balls with the help of 13 fours and 4 sixes. Captain Charith Asalanka contributed 46 runs. In response, the New Zealand team could score only 211 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Rachin Ravindra scored the highest score of 69 runs for New Zealand.

Winning streak continues

New Zealand had earlier toured Sri Lanka in November last year. A 2-match T20I series was played on that tour which was tied at 1-1. Sri Lanka won the first match by 4 wickets while New Zealand won by 5 runs in the second match. Now New Zealand has maintained its winning streak in the shortest format of cricket against Sri Lanka by winning the T20I series at home.
