Boxing Day Test Match: The date of 26 December 2024 has been recorded in golden letters in Test cricket. Today was a very special day in terms of cricket, where a unique sight was seen. Actually, 3 Boxing Day Test matches started in the same day. The test match played a day after Christmas i.e. 25th December is called boxing test match. The Boxing Day Test between India and Australia began in Melbourne, while the two-match Test between hosts South Africa and Pakistan began in Centurion. In both these matches, 2 players got their Test debut.
Boxing Day (26 December) Test
In the India vs Australia Boxing Day Test, Sam Constas created history by making his Test debut at the age of 19. He became the fourth youngest player to make his Test debut for Australia. Constas also performed a great feat by scoring a brilliant half-century in his debut test match. Apart from this, 30 year old Corbin Bosch made his Test debut in the South Africa vs Pakistan Boxing Day Test. Corbin Bosch created a big record by taking a wicket on his very first ball of Test cricket. He became the third bowler in the world to take a wicket on his very first ball in Test cricket this year.
6 players got test cap in one match
Apart from these two Test matches, the third Boxing Day Test between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan started at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. In the first Test match of the 2-match Test series, not one or two but 6 players made their debut together. On behalf of Zimbabwe, 3 new faces were given a chance in the playing eleven while Afghanistan also handed the Test debut cap to 3 players. In this way, 6 players made their Test debut in the same Test match, which is rarely seen in Test cricket.
For Afghanistan, Sediqullah Atal, AM Ghazanfar and Azmatullah Omarzai were handed Test caps, while Zimbabwe included Sam Curran’s elder brother Ben Curran, Trevor Gwandu and Newman Nyamahuri in the playing eleven of the Test team for the first time. During this, Ben Curran did a wonderful job by scoring a brilliant half-century in the first innings of his very first test match.
