Sunil Chhetri hits hat-trick, creates new history in ISL
India’s great footballer Sunil Chhetri on Saturday created a new record in the history of the Indian Super League (ISL). He became the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the history of the league. At the age of 40 years and 126 days, Chhetri scored a hat-trick for his team Bengaluru FC in a 4–2 win against Kerala Blasters. With this brilliant performance, he overtook the previous record holder Bartholomew Ogbeche, who scored a hat-trick for Hyderabad FC against FC Goa in January 2023 at the age of 38 years and 96 days.
The team won because of Chhetri
This brilliant performance of Sunil Chhetri was very important for Bengaluru FC. Chhetri led the team to victory in this match by scoring goals in the 8th, 73rd and 90+8th minutes. His feat shows his hard work and his passion for football. In this match, apart from Chhetri, Ryan Williams of Bengaluru FC scored the second goal in the 38th minute, which proved to be very important for the team. Whereas, for Kerala Blasters, Jesus Jimenez and Freddy Lalamama scored goals in the 56th and 67th minutes respectively, but their team could not win. Although Kerala Blasters played well in the match despite the loss, Bengaluru FC’s strong play and Chhetri’s hat-trick turned the match in the end.
Another record added in career
This record of Chhetri will make his long and illustrious career even better. He has given a new status to Indian football in front of the world and has increased the awareness of football in the country. Although he retired from international football earlier this year, he is still making important contributions to his team in club football. His performance is not only important as a personal record, but it is also an inspiration for young players who are on their way to success in football.
