Sri Lanka had lost 3 wickets at the score of 199 runs, after which Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis took the lead and took the team’s score beyond 200. During this time, as soon as Angelo Mathews completed 34 runs in his personal account, he achieved a big milestone. With his 34th run, Mathews achieved the milestone of 8000 runs in Test cricket. He became only the third Sri Lankan batsman to do so. Before this, only Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene were able to achieve this special feat.
