Debut in 2011 but it took 6 years to play the first test against India, now expressed this big wish
The second match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy is going to start from tomorrow i.e. 6th December with day-night test on Australian soil. After winning the first Test in Perth by a huge margin, Team India is leading 1-0 in the 5-match Test series. Now in the second test match, the host Australia team would like to counterattack against India. Australian captain Pat Cummins not only aims to capture the second Test match but also wants to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy. This is a trophy which he has not been able to win yet as a captain. Pat Cummins has won the ODI World Cup, Ashes and World Test Championship (WTC) in his career but he is yet to taste the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
You will be surprised to know that Pat Cummins’s Test debut was in the year 2011 but he had to wait for 6 long years to play his first Test match against India. He played his first Test match against India in 2017. Even though the Australian team was successful in winning the title by defeating India in the World Test Championship final in July 2023, Australia has not been able to win the Test series against Team India since 2014-15.
The goal is to conquer the last fort.
Meanwhile, the Australian captain expressed his desire to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy on the eve of the second Test match. Cummins said that many players present in the Australian dressing room have not yet won the Border Gavaskar Trophy. This is like conquering the last fort for many players of the team. In the last few years, the Australian team has performed well by facing the challenges boldly. The team needs to do the same in this series also.
BGT very tough series
Cummins does not want to compare the Ashes with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) but he described the battle against the Indian team as the closest match in the last few years. He said he felt it was the closest competition. He feels the Ashes has a rich history, but feels the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been a very tight series as has been seen in recent times.
