Harbhajan Singh: ICC had given the hosting of Champions Trophy 2025 to Pakistan. But it seems difficult to hold this tournament in Pakistan, because BCCI has refused to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan and has also informed ICC about this. BCCI has demanded hybrid model, but Pakistan Cricket Board rejected it outright. Since then, clouds of crisis are seen looming over this tournament. There were reports in many media reports that the entire tournament could be shifted to another country. The news came that if the tournament will be played in hybrid model, then it can be held in UAE.
Keep ego aside: Harbhajan Singh
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh also urged Pakistan Cricket Board officials to keep their egos aside and agree to a ‘hybrid model’ for the ICC Champions Trophy, in which India will play its matches in Dubai. You ask all the players, they will say that they are ready to play in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Anyway, we don’t get to see much India vs Pakistan matches. There is a security concern (for India) and I have been saying this since 2022.
ICC had held a meeting
Champions Trophy schedule is getting delayed after BCCI’s refusal. Then ICC intervened in this matter and held a virtual meeting, in which officials of BCCI and Pakistan Cricket Board participated. In this, ICC has asked PCB to be prepared on hybrid model. Recently PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi said that a lot is happening at the moment and I want to ensure that nothing I say affects the ongoing process. We have presented our view and India has also shared its view. Everyone involved is working hard to find a solution and above all wants to ensure that cricket emerges as the real winner.
Cricket is very popular in both India and Pakistan. Whenever there is a cricket match between the two countries, the fans are very excited. After the terrorist attack in Mumbai in 2008, political relations between the two countries deteriorated. Now both the countries are seen playing only in ICC tournaments and Asia Cup.
