3 cricketers arrested, case related to match fixing; One played his last ODI against India
An embarrassing news has come out from South African cricket. When three African players Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Thami Tsolekile and Ethi Mbalathi have been arrested on five counts of corruption. Corruption charges have been filed against him under Section 15 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004. This includes taking or attempting to give any kind of bribe from another person. This is a threat to and weakening of any sporting event.
Cricket South Africa had banned
According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Thami Tsolekile and Ethi Mbhalati are among the seven cricketers who were banned by Cricket South Africa in 2016 and 2017 for fixing matches during the T20 tournament. Its strings are connected to the 2015-16 RAM Slam Challenge tournament. Out of the 7 players, Ghulam Bodi has already been to jail. While Jean Sims and Pumi Matshikwe were given suspended sentences after pleading guilty. The three players who have just been arrested. Their hearing has been postponed till February 2025.
