Five Held For Burning Effigy During PM Visit
Kanpur, Dec 29: Five youths allegedly linked with frontal organisations of the Samajwadi Party have been arrested for burning an effigy and damaging a vehicle during Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to the city.
According to the police, during the visit on Tuesday, a few Samajwadi Party workers protested against Modi’s tour and burnt an effigy on Hamirpur Sagar road.
They allegedly pelted stones at a four-wheeler bearing a Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) flag and made a video that went viral on social media. The police then arrested the five on Wednesday.
Police said they were former city president of Mulayam Singh Youth Brigade Shukant Sharma, regional secretary of Chattra Sabha Sachin Kesharwani, city president of youth brigade Abhishek Rawat, former district secretary of Yuvjan Sabha Nikesh Kumar and former secretary of SP’s backward cell Ankur Patel.
The car belonged to Ankur Patel, who plotted the incident, police claimed, adding the vehicle was later sent for repairs.
