Big decision of team management for this Indian player, made such a decision after injured players
India vs Australia Test Series: The first match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia will be played on 22 November. But even before this, Indian players played an intra-squad match, in which many prominent Indian players got injured. This increased the problems of team management. Shubman Gill suffered a fracture in his thumb, due to which he will not be able to play in the first test match of BGT. KL Rahul suffered an elbow injury while playing an intra-squad match. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, stayed in India for the birth of his second child. His wife has given birth to a son. Now he is likely to go to Australia soon, but no date has been revealed yet.
Devdutt Padikkal will stay in Australia only
According to the report of Cricbuzz, under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, India-A team played a 2-Test series against Australia-A. The players playing for India A are ready to return home in the next 24 hours. But due to injuries to star players, the team management has decided to keep Devdutt Padikkal, who plays for India A, in Australia as a precautionary measure. He will be the backup of the senior team. If any other player gets injured now, he can also be included in the senior team.
Played only one test match for India
According to Cricbuzz, Devdutt Padikkal’s experience and familiarity with Australian conditions makes him an excellent backup option. He played innings of 26, 1, 36 and 88 runs against Australia-A. He has played only one test match for the Indian team so far. Padikkal had scored 65 runs in the Test match against England in the year 2024. Apart from this, he has also played two T20 International matches for Team India.
Strong performance in domestic cricket
24 year old Devdutt Padikkal may not have got much opportunity in international cricket yet, but he has scored mountains of runs in domestic cricket. He scored 2677 runs in 40 first class matches, which included 6 centuries. He has 1875 runs in his name in 30 List-A matches, which include 8 centuries and 11 half-centuries. He has been a part of RCB, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants in IPL.
