The veteran has announced retirement before the start of the series, breaking this world record will not be easy
The New Zealand team has significantly boosted its hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25 by winning all three matches of the three-match Test series against India. The New Zealand team now has to play a three-match Test series against England at home from November 28, the first match of which will be played at Christchurch. Before the start of this series, former Kiwi team captain and veteran fast bowler Tim Southee has surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from Test cricket. The last few years have not been very good for Saudi in Test cricket, after which he has now decided to retire from this longer format of cricket. At the same time, there is a world record in Saudi’s name which no other player has been able to achieve in international cricket and it will be very difficult to break it in the future also.
It is very difficult to break this Saudi record
It is not at all an easy task for any player to play in all three formats in international cricket, but Saudi has done it very well. Tim Southee is the only player who has taken more than 300 wickets in Test, more than 200 in ODI and more than 100 wickets in T20 International. Saudi is the only player to achieve this feat in international cricket and it is very difficult to break his world record. Saudi has taken 385 wickets in Tests so far and he is second in terms of taking most wickets for New Zealand after Richard Hadlee (431 Test wickets). Whereas Saudi has taken 221 wickets in ODI and 164 wickets in T20 International so far.
Had made headlines with his performance in the Under 19 World Cup
Tim Southee was a part of the New Zealand team in the ICC Under-19 World Cup played in 2008, in which he took a total of 17 wickets in the tournament and was also awarded the title of Player of the Tournament. Apart from this, Saudi has to play four ODI World Cups, seven T20 World Cups and two Champions Trophies in his career, apart from playing the final match of one World Test Championship.
