Why did James Anderson give his name for IPL auction, he wants to do this work

As the IPL 2025 auction came closer, as soon as the list of players who had registered themselves came out, the fans were shocked. It was revealed that the name of one of England’s great fast bowlers, James Anderson, is also in this list. The interesting thing is that James Anderson has now announced his retirement from international cricket and he has never played IPL till now. He is now about 42 years old and what could be the reason for playing IPL at this age. Now Anderson himself has exposed this entire matter.

James Anderson told BBC Radio 4 Today in a podcast that there is still something in him that feels he can play. Anderson said that he has never played IPL. For many reasons he feels he has a lot to offer as a player. He said that by playing in the world’s biggest T20 league i.e. IPL, he not only wants to increase his knowledge but also wants to gain experience and knowledge. Anderson said he did a little coaching after finishing his career over the summer. He is also working as a mentor to some extent with the England team. He feels that playing and gaining experience in such a league might help him increase his knowledge about the game.

Last T20 match was played in 2014

The interesting thing is that James Anderson played his last T20 match in the year 2014, that is, he has been away from this format for ten years and has not played any match. Anderson has kept his base price for the IPL auction at Rs 1.25 crore. He retired from Test cricket at the beginning of the year having taken 704 wickets in 188 matches for England. He is the third highest wicket-taker after Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia’s spin magician Shane Warne (708). Although his international career is over, his hunger to play cricket is still not over.

Although James Anderson is quite old, whether any team will think of including him in their team is a big question. But it is also certain that their price will not be very high. That means they will come at a very low price, maybe only Rs 1.25 crore, which is their base price. In such a situation, the team will definitely get a better fast bowler, who brings his experience, and even if he is out of the field, he can teach something to the young fast bowlers, hence bets can be placed on him. For now, it remains to be seen whether he is included in the list of shortlisted players or not. If they are shortlisted then it is not a big deal if they are purchased.
