IND vs NZ: Shubman Gill missed a century, but still created history; Rohit and Pujara were also left behind

On the second day of the third Test match being played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India’s young batsman Shubman Gill created history by playing a brilliant innings against New Zealand. On the second day, Shubhman Gill, while firmly handling one end, along with Rishabh Pant worked to take the innings forward. Both made a partnership of 96 runs for the 5th wicket. Rishabh Pant became the victim of Glenn Phillips after scoring 60 runs. After this, Ravindra Jadeja (14) and Sarfaraz Khan were out cheaply and returned to the pavilion. During this, Gill maintained the pace of runs in his personal account while handling one end. However, when he came close to his century, he got dodged by a brilliant ball from Ajaz Patel and gave away his wicket. In this way Shubman Gill missed out on scoring a century. Gill remained just 10 runs away from his century. This is the fourth time that he has become a victim of the nervous nineties.

Even though Shubman Gill could not complete his Test century, he made many big records in his name on the basis of his innings of 90 runs. Gill hit 7 fours and 1 six in his innings. With this, the young Indian batsman left behind many batsmen including Rohit Sharma. Actually, before this match, Shubman Gill was at 15th position in terms of scoring most runs in the World Test Championship 2023-25, but after this innings, he has made it to the top-10. Gill has now become the highest run-scorer in the current WTC cycle. Gill has left behind Rohit Sharma, Saud Shakeel, Ben Stokes, Rachin Ravindra and Dhananjay de Silva by playing brilliant innings in this match.
Pujara also left behind
Actually, Shubman Gill has scored 878 runs in 23 innings of 13 Test matches in WTC 2023-25 at an average of 43.90, which includes 3 centuries and 3 half-centuries. On the basis of this half-century innings, Gill has now overtaken Cheteshwar Pujara in terms of scoring the most runs in WTC history. In the WTC, Pujara has scored 1769 runs in 62 innings of 35 Test matches, while Gill has scored 1799 runs in only 29 Test matches.
