PM To Visit Tripura On Jan 4 To Open New Terminal Of MBB Airport
Agartala, Dec 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Tripura on January 4 next to inaugurate a slew of projects including a Vidyajyoti School and the newly built terminal of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport here.
State Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has confirmed the visit of the Prime Minister to Tripura to dedicate the new terminal building of MBB Airport, the second busiest Airport in Northeast India.
Deb attended a meeting with the top officials regarding Modi’s visit where he will address a gathering at Swami Vivekananda Stadium in the city followed by the formal opening of the new airport terminal.
The Prime Minister will pay a short visit to Tripura on his way back to Delhi after visiting poll-bound Manipur. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is also scheduled to accompany the PM in the inauguration program of the airport terminal which is equipped with all modern and international flying facilities, Deb said.
The New Integrated Terminal Building has been built on a 0.03 square kilometer area in the southern end of the existing airport at a cost of Rs. 438 crore. A range of high-end facilities has been installed including full-body scanners and modern aprons capable of handling Airbus-321. The terminal will be able to cater to 1,200 passengers at once with 20 check-in counters.
Various handicrafts from Tripura were being used in the construction of the new terminal. While the new airport terminal would boost the state’s trade, commerce and tourism besides establishing international air connectivity, Vidyajyoti Schools under the ‘Mission 100’ scheme, the biggest ever project here, is important towards making the state a hub of quality education, Deb said adding,
“Vidyajyoti project is touted as the most ambitious project for making the new generation achieve brighter future and professional life”.
Chief Secretary Kumar Alok tweeted that he had briefed the Prime Minister about the projects to be launched during his visit to Tripura.
