Odisha Got New DGP As YB Khurania

Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer YB Khurania has been appointed as the next Director General of Police of Odisha. The 1990 batch IPS officer was recently transferred back to Odisha by the central government. Later, there was talk of him becoming DGP. Now IPS Arun Shadangi is posted as Additional DGP. He got this appointment during Naveen Patnaik’s government but there were various questions about not being a full-time DGP in such a big post of the state.

Recently, the government has given the list of some senior IPSC to UPSC. Later, a meeting of UPSC was held in Delhi. In which Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja was also present. Similarly, there were reports that Chief Minister Mohan Majhi met Khurania when he was visiting Delhi recently. So there was already some kind of clear signal about Khurania becoming DGP but the official announcement was awaited.

Khurania was earlier posted as Special DG at BSF Headquarters. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the Home Ministry’s proposal to immediately reinstate BSF Special DG YB Khurania to his original cadre.

Before moving on central deputation, this senior IPS officer was working as Additional DGP in Odisha. Before going on central deputation, Y B Khurania worked as Superintendent of Police or SP of Nayagarh, Jajpur, Rourkela, Mayurbhanj and Ganjam districts in Odisha. Apart from this, he also served as DIG South Range and North Range, Additional Commissioner of Police and later Commissioner of Police.

Notably, there has been a major party shift in the power corridor after the BJP came to power in the state. It is said that a new team has been formed from IAS, IPS, which is a supporter or choice of the Naveen Patnaik government.
