Bhubaneswar: Odia girl Anita Swain shines in Russia. This mountaineer girl again makes Odisha proud worldwide after exhibiting the Jagannath culture to the world. She waved the holy flag of Lord Jagannath at the top of the mountain. Her journey from Salia Sahi slums to Mount Elbrus is a very inspiring story. In her recent expedition, Anita scaled Mount Elbrus in Russia. It is the highest mountain in Russia and the 10th-most prominent peak in the world. This achievement helped her to explore her and her originality a step ahead. To facilitate the young talent for her attainment Odisha Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj rewarded her with 2 lakh cash prize.
Talking about her personal life, her native place is Jagannath Dham Puri, but years back her family shifted to Salia Sahi slum in Bhubaneswar. Anita Swain’s journey started in 2015 during her graduation. Being a daughter of a daily laborer, she faced a lot of obstacles in her way to success. But she never gave them the power to decide her future. Now she is preparing for her new destination i.e. world’s highest peak Mount Everest.
On July 13, 2023 Anita conquered another peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro. In this journey, she was the only Indian mountaineer among other foreign nationalists. Kilimanjaro is the fourth most topographically prominent peak on earth. It is the highest mountain in Africa measuring 5,895m above sea level.
