Koraput: A young girl student was discovered hanging inside a hostel room at the Central University of Odisha in Koraput’s Sunabeda on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Sandhyarani Das, was a first-year student in the Mathematics department and hailed from Kendrapada district.
According to sources familiar with the incident, Sandhyarani retired to her room after dinner on Friday night. Concern arose among her classmates when she failed to respond to calls regarding a sports event scheduled at the university the following day. Upon attempting to make contact with her, they received no answer, prompting them to knock on her door. However, their attempts proved futile as there was no response from inside the room. Worried for her well-being, the students alerted the hostel superintendent and university authorities.
Subsequently, the police were notified, and upon their arrival, they gained access to the room. Inside, they made the grim discovery of the young student hanging from a ceiling fan. In response to the incident, the main entrance of the university was promptly closed off, restricting access to and from the premises as authorities commenced their investigation. Additionally, the parents of the deceased have been informed about the tragic event, further compounding the sorrow surrounding the situation.
As investigations into the circumstances surrounding Sandhyarani’s untimely demise continue, the university community and beyond mourn the loss of a promising young student.
