Bhubaneswar, Nov 24 : Vigilance officials on Friday unearthed disproportionate assets worth crores of rupees from the possession of a Deputy Superintendent of Excise in Nabarangpur district of Odisha.
Vigilance sources here said on the allegation of possession of disproportionate assets by Gonga Paikray, Deputy Superintendent of Excise-cum-I/C Superintendent of Excise, Nabarangpur, simultaneous searches have been conducted by by 3 DSPs, 5 Inspectors, 6 ASIs and other staff at six places in Koraput and Nabarangpur districts.
During search operation, two multi storied buildings, five plots at Jeypore, Rs 1.09 lakh in cash, two four wheelers alongwith other assets unearthed linked to Gonga Paikray.
During house searches so far, the assets have been unearthed in the name ofi Paikray and his family members are Triple storeyed residential building with area approx 4000 Sqft. located near Fire Station, Jeypore, another triple storeyed residential building with area approx 1800 Sqft. over plot No.791/200 located at Nuasahi Lane-1, Jeypore, Advance amount of Rs.16 Lakh paid to Annapurna Real Estate, Jeypore during 2013-14 to purchase land/house was also found.
The measurement and valuation of the buildings/plots is being carried out by Vigilance Technical Wing.
Bank, Insurance, Postal and other deposits are under verification.
Searches are continuing.
In another incident Ranjan Kishore Behera, Ex-DLO, Kandhamal, at present DLO, Nabarangpur, who was chargesheeted by Vigilance U/s 7 PC Amendment Act, 2018 for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.15,000 from the complainant for recommending the names of beneficiaries to get the death assistance under Government scheme, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani .
The court today sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and imposed fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence U/s 7 PC Amendment Act, 2018.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Ranjan Kishore Behera, from service following his conviction and sentence.
